This is an old revision of the document!

Add a language to a website

Once the new language has been activated, the steps are:

  1. upload the contents translated
  2. configure manually the menus and forms in the new language
  3. upload the static fragments of text
  4. enable GDPR compliance

See below for details.

Editorial Contents

Editorial sections (about pages, blog, news, etc.) are independent from one language to another.

  1. (Cone) creates the sections in the new language
  2. (Customer) the contents in the new language are created in the back office

Alternatively, it's possible for the company to export the existing contents to Excel. This is only to facilitate the translations, as there is no requirement that there are the same pages in the new language.

  1. export the existing contents in Excel (Catalog Administration > Import/Export Excel > Operation = Export Objects)
  2. import the translate files, keeping the same headers in the first row

Catalog Data

The catalog is designed to optimize the translation in other languages for a large number of products. Most of the translations happen at meta-data level and only text descriptions at a product-by-product level.

  1. (customer) from Catalog Administration > Import/Export Excel export the meta data: Features, Features values, Categories, Catalog Attachmnents
  2. (customer) from Catalog Administration > Import/Export Excel export the Catalog Data
  3. (customer) translate a few lines and check with Cone
  4. (customer) complete the translations
  5. (Cone) upload the translated files

Menus have to be recreated manually and their IDs referenced in the website configuration.

  1. (customer) provide the menu items translations in any form
  2. (Cone) configures the menus

Forms have to be recreated manually.

  1. (customer) provide the form items translations in any form
  2. (Cone) configures the forms

Small fragments of static text and links, used throughout the website, need to be configured in the system

  1. (Cone) provides an Excel file with the list
  2. (Customer) translates the file
  3. (Cone) apply the translations to the system

Make sure that the GDPR is set for the new language, and compliant with the different data protection laws of that may apply for the new language:
